Privacy Policy
The short version
We don't want your data. We don't sell your data. We don't build a profile of what you look up. When you paste a YouTube URL, the site sends that URL to Google's YouTube Data API, returns the result to your browser, and forgets the whole exchange.
What we collect
Two things, both standard for any website:
- Server access logs. IP address, browser user-agent, the page you requested, a timestamp. These are kept for up to 30 days and used only to debug problems and defend against abuse.
- Basic analytics. We track how many people visit which pages. We don't track individuals across sessions. No ad pixels, no cross-site trackers.
What we don't collect
We don't store the YouTube URLs you paste. We don't save the descriptions, tags or transcripts you extract. We don't ask for your name or email unless you send us one through the contact page.
YouTube data
When you extract a video, our server calls the official YouTube Data API v3 to fetch the public metadata Google has about that video. The response is sent back to your browser. We don't persist it on disk.
Google may log that API call on their side as part of our project's usage quota. That log contains our server's credentials and the video ID, not anything about you. You can read Google's own privacy policy for how they handle that.
Transcripts
Transcripts come from a different source. We fetch the public YouTube watch page for the video ID, read the caption track URL out of it, and download the caption XML. No login, no tokens, no private data. YouTube sees this as a normal request from our server.
Cookies
The site doesn't set cookies for tracking. A session cookie may be used only for abuse protection. We don't use any advertising cookies.
Third parties
- Google (YouTube Data API). Necessary to return the information you're asking for.
- Google Fonts. We load the Inter font from Google Fonts for typography. Google's policy covers that request.
- Web host. Our hosting provider sees the same access logs any host sees.
That's the full list. No Facebook pixels, no Hotjar, no Intercom.
Children
This site isn't designed for children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything meaningful, we update the "Last updated" date at the top. Major changes will be announced on the home page.
Your rights
If you're in a jurisdiction that gives you the right to access, correct or delete personal data, write to us at [email protected]. We'll honor valid requests within 30 days. Since we don't store much in the first place, most requests take a few minutes.
